Lowe’s
Paint Selection
This Lowe's project started out as a special side project for me and another UXA on my team to research and plan in downtime during and between agile sprints. Lowe's wanted to create a paint selection tool online to allow for better informed paint purchases including repurchases. We spent time at the stores researching how paint was selected and purchased and how that could translate online. Later the project was significantly downsized to sell seasonal paint colors, but a lot was learned through the process as shown in these examples...
process Flow
While visiting stores we found issues that came up with current in-store systems that made the process more complicated in relation to online sales.
I created a process flow that combined current processes with proposed online solutions.
We communicated these findings, ideas and sketches to product owners and executives.
Wireframes
I created sketches and wireframes to communicate our solution and its functionality.
The challenge of matching real paint with a large color palette with an online color selection tool was no small task.
We came up with some elegant solutions that we presented to the stakeholders.
We were able to create an architecture that would allow the user to select from a genre and on down to a particular color with a matching SKU in our paint product lists.
Unfortunately we never got to test this system. The project was postponed.
Sketch, visual Design, Live
As a consolation, shortly thereafter I was included in a special team that would work on another paint selection project.
This tool would allow users to select seasonal paint colors and view how those would look in various rooms.
Here you'll see how I communicated to the team with sketches, then visual design.
We worked along side our devoted developer to quickly create an MVP.
We then tested and released this tool in a matter of weeks with minimal issues and high stakeholder praise.
Our product received positive customer reviews and helped increase online seasonal paint sales by 20%.
